Dan Collins is a Printer, Painter, Poet. Not necessarily in that order, or any order.

After 43 years in the printing industry, he has finally decided to do something useful with his life. He will say yes to the creative pursuit of painting, poetry, and yes, printing too.

Whatever the medium, he feels his most successful work is honest—in spite of itself. He will often take on large, immediate issues, and find a way to inject deeply personal conflicts and concerns.

He feels that the arts have a way of making one vulnerable to existence like nothing else can.

I love Dan's art and can't wait to listen to him read his poems!

Another all-time fav. Soho ca. 2014

I sold the original to Jason in Salt Lake when I had the show at Alchemy Coffee

It just so happened that I had an extra print, so the one in this show is a brand new original. It has a totally different border around the cradled edge.

Most of them are all there is, never to be reproduced, even with a new edge. Never again and no more. There is no image to go back to for printing. A lesson in everything is temporary and there are still things that are sacred. And also losing your cell phone at the same place twice before the cloud, those were some rocky times in New York.

The show has expanded so much since then, even with a few umbrella corpses missing. Think of how many umbrella corpses a person can walk by in 7 years.

Can't wait to take some deep dives with some of these next week when they are hanging. They are all so special.

This is an old fav, the only skeleton I ever stumbled upon, under a bridge in the majestic borough, Queens.

And it was resting there, just like that. It never got printed big, but it made it into a collage you can see next week!

I've been thinking about how meaningful this show is to me, after all these years. Some of it is closure, but it's also a love letter to New York. So much joy and pain, so much growth.

I was gone most of the day yesterday, so today we're catching up on playtime and revisiting some cross examinations by Kevin Reddington mixed in with cutting circles and drawing symbols.
