We understand that visiting our studio may take longer, our hours can be flexible, and our prices might be higher than others. When The Spanglish Needle started, we chose to be a welcoming and inclusive small business for all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. We prioritize our clients’ care and happiness, especially their children.

Our values are sometimes tested. For instance, our piercings waivers require clients to declare they’re not pregnant or breastfeeding. This is a legal requirement and ensures the health and safety of pregnant individuals and their babies. Piercings are primarily for aesthetic purposes, and contact between a pregnant person and their baby can introduce harmful substances. Therefore, safety and proper procedures are crucial for both mother and child. However, it’s important to understand the rationale behind these precautions.

We recently met a new client expecting. Prior to coming to us, she visited a reputable piercing studio for a jewelry change and discussed her pregnancy, expressing her inability to get a new piercing now.

A few days later, she noticed something felt off and contacted her provider. She researched extensively at 4 am to address her concerns and the apparent medical situation. She found our studio and promptly booked an appointment for the next day to see us & get evaluated; not realizing the extent of how bad it had gotten.

After a rapid phone call with her OB, numbing was provided to avoid risks to her or her baby. The abscesses on her ear were thoroughly drained in the studio. The decision was made to transfer to the ER for definitive care. She received intravenous antibiotics and close monitoring.

She’s doing well, and everything with the baby looks good. We’re honored to have her as a client.
