the most ignored. We get it. You're hungry. It feels arbitrary.

But here's why we're serious about it: when anesthesia is on board, your body's gag reflex doesn't work the way it normally does. If there's food or liquid in your stomach, there's a real risk it could end up in your lungs. And that's a situation nobody wants to manage in the OR.

So yes — we'll always ask. And yes — we'll always explain why.
