Some babies struggle to latch. Some children have speech challenges. Some parents know something feels “off,” but they are not sure where to begin.

Tongue-tie can affect how the tongue moves, which may impact feeding, speech, oral development, and comfort. At Teeth R’ Us, Dr. Smith evaluates tongue and lip ties with a whole-child perspective and offers gentle laser frenectomy treatment when it is the right fit.

A tongue-tie evaluation may be helpful if your baby or child shows signs like:

• Clicking during feeding
• Difficulty maintaining suction
• Slow weight gain
• Trouble moving the tongue side to side
• A heart-shaped tongue tip
• Speech concerns connected to restricted tongue movement

Since today is National Donut Day, here’s your friendly pediatric dental reminder: sweet treats do not have to be “off limits,” but they do need a little strategy.

A few smile-friendly tips:
• Enjoy sweets with a meal instead of grazing all day
• Offer water afterward to help rinse the mouth
