1. Remove Tripping Hazards
Keep pathways clear and safe. Remove loose rugs, electrical cords, and any clutter that could cause a senior to trip or lose balance.
2. Install Grab Bars and Handrails
Add grab bars in bathrooms near the toilet and inside the shower or tub. Handrails on both sides of stairways can provide extra stability and support.
3. Improve Lighting
Ensure the home is well-lit, especially in hallways, staircases, and bathrooms. Using night lights can help seniors move aroundrooms safely during the night.
4. Stay Physically Active hallways.
Regular light activities such as walking, stretching, or balance exercises can strengthen muscles and improve stability, helping to lower the risk of falls.
5. Use Mobility Aids When Needed
Mobility aids such as canes or walkers can provide additional support and help seniors move safely throughout their homes.
