Here's something that doesn't get talked about nearly enough: new or worsening anxiety in your 30s and 40s is sometimes a hormone symptom, not a mental health diagnosis.
Progesterone has a deeply calming effect on the brain and nervous system. When it starts to decline, that natural buffer disappears, and what's left can feel like anxiety, restlessness, or an inability to quiet your mind that seemingly came out of nowhere. Estrogen plays a similar role in regulating serotonin, which means when it drops, your emotional baseline drops with it.
Most people who experience this get referred to a therapist or prescribed an antidepressant. And while those approaches have their place, they don't necessarily always address what's actually driving the shift. If your anxiety started or got significantly worse in midlife, your hormones are worth looking into.
It's not all in your head, and it's more addressable than you might think. Take our free symptom quiz at the link in our bio to see if BHRT could be right for you.
