Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day can bring up many emotions: grief, gratitude, reflection, pride, sadness, or even heaviness for those who have experienced loss, trauma, or have loved ones connected to military service.

As we recognize this day, may we hold space for remembrance, compassion, and respect for the sacrifices made by service members and their families.

You can show up, take your time, breathe, aim carefully, and still have to wait to see what falls.

Healing is not always instant. Progress is not always visible right away. Sometimes you’ve done the work, made the healthy choice, set the boundary, went to therapy, rested, prayed, journaled, cried, and tried again… and the outcome still takes time.

Don’t mistake the waiting period for failure.

Sometimes the most awkward part of this job isn’t the therapy, it’s the logistics.

Boundaries, confidentiality, and unexpected situations happen more often than people realize in mental health work.
