The UTIs that Keep Coming Back Aren’t Bad Luck

You know the feeling before the test even confirms it. The burning. The constant urge to go. And here you are again, picking up another round of antibiotics, maybe the third one this year.

You’ve done everything they told you. More water. Cranberry juice. Wiping front to back. And still, they keep coming back.

Here’s what rarely gets explained. The tissue of your bladder and urinary tract relies on estrogen to stay thick, resilient, and protected. That same tissue is home to the good bacteria that keep infections out.

When estrogen levels fluctuate the tissue may thin and the protective bacteria fade. Your urinary tract becomes an easier place for an infection to take hold. This isn’t bad luck, and it isn’t something you’re doing wrong. It’s a real change in a place no one thought to check.

There’s a targeted option most women are never offered: a low dose of estrogen applied right to the tissue. It works exactly where it’s needed, with very little absorbed into the rest of your body. It rebuilds the tissue, restores the protective bacteria, and for many women, the endless cycle of UTIs finally breaks.

And because it stays local, many women who’ve had breast cancer can still consider it, usually with their oncologist’s input.

You don’t have to keep treating the same infection on repeat. You can treat what’s making you vulnerable to it in the first place.

✅ If UTIs keep coming back and antibiotics only buy you a few quiet months, there may be a root cause no one has addressed. Schedule an evaluation and let’s talk about whether local estrogen is right for you.

You did everything they told you to do.
You stopped shrinking yourself with cardio and started lifting heavy. You added the protein. You got consistent in a way you’re actually proud of.
And somewhere in the back of your mind you expected your body to reward you for it.
Instead, your arms still have that little flap to them.
The little bit of bulge around your middle won’t budge no matter how consistent the week was. And a workout session that used to leave you reasonably sore now wrecks you for three days.

You start to wonder what you’re doing wrong.
Usually, nothing.
Testosterone is the hormone that turns a hard workout into visible muscle. Women carry only a fraction of what men do, but that small amount is what gives you tone, definition, and a body that answers back when you put in the work. It declines with age and stress, and when it does, every session gives you less than it used to. Same effort, smaller return.
So you do what most of us do. You add another workout. You cut a little more food. And you end up more tired, more discouraged, and somehow further from the body you’re working so hard for.
Most women are never told that testosterone is part of their hormonal picture, let alone that it’s testable and treatable. It’s often the missing piece between doing the work and finally seeing it pay off.
A hormone evaluation can show whether low testosterone is the reason your body stopped responding, and whether testosterone therapy is the step that lets your effort finally show.
→ Save this if you’ve been doing the work without seeing the payoff.

The Breast Cancer Conversation
That headline stopped millions of women from even asking for HRT. But the study behind it is over 20 years old. And the science looks very different now.
The fear traces back to one study from 2002. It used a synthetic hormone combination in women whose average age was 63. The actual increase in breast cancer risk was small enough to be classified as rare.
Since then, our understanding of the research has been clarified. Body-identical hormones, the kind that match what your body naturally produces, carry a different risk profile than the synthetic versions used in that original study.
Does that mean HRT is risk-free? No. Duration matters. Personal history matters. But the conversation shouldn’t end at a headline from 2002.
→ The original study used synthetic hormones, not body-identical ones
→ Estrogen alone was linked to lower breast cancer risk on long-term follow-up
→ Body-identical progesterone carries a meaningfully different risk profile
→ Your risk depends on your history, not a blanket statistic
If fear shut down the conversation before it started, it may be time to reopen it with current evidence and a provider who understands the nuance.
✅ A hormone consultation looks at your actual risk profile and walks you through what the research shows today. Schedule yours today.
📲 Save this for when you’re ready to revisit the conversation.

The Conversation:

Something shifted and you can’t quite name it.

Sensation feels different. Desire doesn’t show up the way it used to. Physical closeness that once felt natural now requires more thought, more effort, more adjusting.

You’ve Googled it. Maybe bought a product or two. Maybe told yourself it’s normal.

But here’s the thing: hormonal changes affect lubrication, sensitivity, arousal response, and even how your skin registers touch. And when those shifts happen, the conversation shouldn’t stop at a single product recommendation.

Supportive tools matter. Quality lubricants, pelvic floor work, open communication with your partner about what feels different. These are all part of a healthy, complete approach to intimate wellness.

But they work best when paired with an understanding of what’s actually driving the change.

In our practice, we normalize this conversation because it is clinical care. We evaluate the hormonal shifts influencing sensation, desire, and comfort, and we build a plan that addresses the root alongside the support.

Because intimacy is not a luxury. It’s a quality of life issue that deserves the same attention as your sleep, your energy, and your labs.

✅ If something has changed in the bedroom and no one’s connected it to your hormones, this is a conversation worth starting. Schedule your evaluation and let’s look at the full picture.
