The long-overdue shift away from medical gaslighting offers real hope that young girls with Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) will finally be heard rather than dismissed. This change is critical, as recent data shows PCOS affects up to 11% of adolescents worldwide, yet a staggering 70% of cases remain completely undiagnosed. Navigating this gap is a grueling process; research indicates that a third of patients face delays of over two years and must consult three or more doctors before receiving answers. By equipping families to recognize early warning signs and urging pediatricians to intervene proactively rather than telling young patients to "wait it out," we can catch the condition early and protect both their long-term physical and emotional well-being.
Children’s Hospital Colorado’s PCOS Clinic Director is helping rename the syndrome to PMOS to better reflect its full-body impact.
