Coffee: first adult beverage Coffee: affordable luxury Coffee: the scent that wakes one with a smile
For many of us, coffee was something to aspire to as a child. The thing we begged to taste, but were refused. I know I didn’t like it at first and now that I know how to brew it properly, it is no wonder! I only had coffee candy to compare it to and that was rich, full of an amazing flavor unlike anything else before it! Mom’s coffee was not as rich and adding more of it to the pot just didn’t do the trick. (I tried and the percolator spewed hot grinds and water out the lid! Memorable moment. )
The real thing never lived up to the candy till I tasted coffee made in an Italian stove top espresso pot. Tiny little cup? Not for me. I drank it by the mug full and was awake, wired and in love with the coffee bean. Didn’t add sugar, but discovered that a dash of heavy cream added a delightful creaminess to it. Fortunately all the latest healthy food pundits tell us that this beverage is good for the body*, because I am addicted!
Over the years I experimented, sampled brewing methods and owned an array of coffee pots that all delivered a good cup of coffee. I used Chemex(r) before Chemex(r) was cool. I was more interested in the HOW than in the WHAT. That all changed when I tasted freshly roasted coffee and when I did, the world of coffee changed forever. Now it is all about the beans. Well, mostly about the beans. Along the way I found fabulous French Presses and discovered the Toddy for cold brewing. That was a hard device to come by in the 80s and I still use the original one purchased over 20 years ago. These are the products Live Oak Coffee Company was created to deliver to you. We will share some advice on the HOW as well. No worries there, but mainly I hope you will try our coffees because my picky taste buds think they are amazing.
