When pain suddenly increases, the brain naturally searches for a physical explanation.

“I overdid it.”

“I moved wrong.”

“Something must be getting worse.”

But the return of pain does not, by itself, tell us what caused it.

Once the nervous system has learned an alarm response, that response can be reactivated by stress, poor sleep, illness, fear, an unfamiliar activity or simply expecting the movement to hurt.

The flare is real. But it is not automatic proof that you reinjured yourself or that you are back at the beginning.

Before assuming something has been damaged, it may help to ask:

What else was happening when the volume went up?

That question is not dismissing the body. It is gathering more complete information.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆?

Yesterday you walked through the grocery store without much trouble.

Today, the same distance caused a major pain flare.

It is natural to assume something in your back must have changed. But did the structure really change that much overnight?

When pain is unpredictable, the nervous system may be considering more than the condition of the tissues.

Sleep, stress, fear, attention, expectations, previous experiences and even the situation you are in can affect how much protection the brain believes you need.

That does not make the pain imaginary. It means pain is more complex than a simple report from an injured body part.

The inconsistency that has been driving you crazy may actually be useful information.

What is one activity that can feel doable one day and impossible the next?

Here's a question most people with chronic pain aren't asked:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗪𝗘𝗜𝗥𝗗 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻? 🤔

Maybe…
→ It moves around.
→ Some days it's awful and other days it's tolerable.
→ An activity hurts one day but not another.
→ It flares when you're stressed.
→ Your MRI hasn't changed—but your pain has.
→ You've had treatment after treatment, yet the pain keeps coming back.

We tend to dismiss these inconsistencies.

But I think they're fascinating—because sometimes they're clues.

When pain doesn't behave exactly the way we'd expect from an injury, it's worth asking whether the brain and nervous system may be contributing to the alarm.

So tell me:
What's one thing about YOUR pain that has never made sense?

Have you ever gone on vacation and realized…

“W𝗮𝗶𝘁. 𝗠𝘆 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿.”

Then you come home, get back into your normal routine—and there it is again. 😩

Same body.

Same spine.

Same MRI.

So…what changed?

This can be an interesting clue.

Chronic pain isn't always a simple measure of what's happening in your tissues. Your brain and nervous system are constantly interpreting information—including stress, fear, safety and what they expect to happen.

That doesn't make the pain imaginary.

The pain is real. But sometimes the reason it continues isn't what we've been taught to believe.

Have you ever noticed your pain change on vacation or when you were doing something you really enjoyed?
👇 Tell me. I'm curious.

If you’ve ever been told “It’s all in your head” or left a doctor’s office feeling unseen… you’re not alone.

But what if the real problem isn’t your body—it’s your brain’s prediction system?

This week, I’m doing a free training that might change how you see your pain forever.
We’ll talk about:
✔️ What keeps pain stuck—even when your scans don't match the pain
✔️ How real people Laura found lasting relief
✔️ And how to figure out if neuroplastic pain is part of your story

📆 It’s happening Thursday at 12 PM ET, and you’re invited.

Drop the word “LAURA” below if you want to come. I’ll message you the details 💙

👉 You’ve done the tests. You’ve tried the treatments.

And still… the pain is there.

This Thursday, I’m hosting a free mini-class to help you understand why this happens—and what you can do about it.

It's called “Solve the Mystery of Chronic Pain,” and we’ll walk through real-life stories, science-backed tools, and 3 brain-based strategies that help you retrain the pain—not just chase it.

🧠 If you’re curious, drop a 🔍 in the comments or send me a DM and I’ll get you the link.

You’re not broken. You’re just missing a piece of the puzzle—and I want to help you find it.

I've met far too many people who quietly believed they were destined to hurt forever.

I believed that once, too.

There is another way to understand persistent pain—and it changes everything.

Have you ever noticed your pain improves when you're away from work—only to flare up again during a stressful shift?

That's an important clue.

It doesn't mean your body suddenly became damaged again.

I'll explain why during the workshop.

𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘆.

Sometimes it's swinging from branch to branch, making noise, reacting to everything. It's doing exactly what it's designed to do—protect us.

But when the monkey feels safe...

it can sit quietly and enjoy a snack.

Our nervous systems can learn that kind of safety too.

That's one of the things I'll be teaching in How To Stop Planning Your Life Around Pain.

Comment 𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦 and I'll send you the workshop link.
