Sometimes parents hesitate to ask questions about their kids publicly (🙋🏼‍♀️) so I recently added a parent question form to my website where families can privately submit speech, language, reading, spelling, or literacy questions and I will answer them anonymously.

As I've shared before, one of my sons struggled with reading despite being bright, capable, and hard working. Like many parents, I was reassured for a long time that he was making “enough” progress in school- yet as his mom, I could still see how difficult reading felt for him behind the scenes.

That experience completely changed the way I looked at literacy, learning differences, and the emotional side of academic struggles for both children and parents.

As I get questions, I’ll be answering them through educational posts and resources via Point Speech Pathology to hopefully make these topics feel less overwhelming and easier to understand for parents ❤️

Did you know? A child who says “wed” for “red” may also spell it that way.

Speech sound disorders don’t just affect how children are understood socially- they can also impact:
✅ spelling
✅ reading
✅ phonics
✅ confidence in the classroom

Sometimes what looks like a “spelling problem” is actually a speech sound pattern carrying over into literacy.

As a speech-language pathologist, I help children strengthen BOTH clear speech and the literacy foundations connected to speech sounds.

If your child is difficult to understand, avoids certain sounds, or spells words exactly the way they say them, it may be worth taking a closer look.

The longer we wait to identify a child that struggles to read, the more intervention, time, money and remediation is needed, not to mention the impact that waiting may have on self esteem and mental health.
Early identification of reading difficulties and evidence based structured literacy intervention is essential.

Don’t wait. Close the gap.

It takes four times longer to intervene in 4th grade than in 1st grade.

You guys this is my first ever reel like this and it took me no less than 3 hours to edit it to post.. in that time there were 3 snacks, 1 boo boo and a choreographed "dance show". I'm hiding behind a bush in my yard here.. enjoy 😅
