Our pharmacy here at the Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic stays busy filling hundreds of free prescriptions every week for patients who would otherwise go without life‑saving medications.

And who’s right in the middle of all that action? Our Pharmacy Technician students.

They’re not just shadowing or watching from the sidelines. They’re hands‑on: counting tablets, labeling vials, consulting with pharmacists, and even interacting with patients.

Yes, the hours are long. Yes, the pace is fast. But that’s how real experience is earned.

These techs are learning what no textbook can teach: how to stay calm under pressure, how to catch a potential interaction before it happens, and how a single bottle of free medication can change someone’s entire future.

Thinking about a career in pharmacy? Come see what hands‑on really means.

Each and every one of our volunteers wear their dedication to our patients on their sleeve at the Gary Burnstein Community Health Clinic. They care about every person who walks in the door as if they have known them for years.

These are the results you get when you genuinely care about improving someone's life, not just moving to the next medical chart. At GBCHC, consistent and compassionate community care is at the core of what we do.

With over 5 million cases diagnosed in the United States each year, skin cancer is America’s most common cancer. Fortunately, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers.

Everyone should start a lifelong habit of checking their skin by performing skin self-exams.

Here's why these exams are so important:
- If caught early, melanoma is highly treatable.
- Melanoma can develop anywhere on the skin, including skin that's had plenty of sun exposure and skin that's usually protected from the sun.
- Melanoma can develop under or around a fingernail or toenail.

Our mental health and physical health are closely connected. Things like sleep, stress, movement, nutrition, and existing health conditions all play a role in how we feel, both mentally and physically.

Although many factors that affect our health are beyond our control, noticing what we can influence is very important for our well-being. Whether you are finding ways to get moving that you enjoy, taking time to connect with your community, or remembering to drink water — small wins matter in our healthcare journey.

Mental health impacts everyone, including our own communities. Your experience, your journey, and your voice can help break stigma, build understanding, and create hope and healing for others.

Stigma grows in silence. Healing begins in community. This Mental Health Awareness Month share your story to help break the silence. Be the reason someone realizes they don’t have to face this alone.

Folks at the clinic got a special visit yesterday. 💙

Ian Burnstein, our Board Chair and the son of our Dr. Gary Burnstein, stopped by GBCHC.

Having Ian walk the hall of this building is always a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. His father dreamed of a place where healthcare was free, dignified, and accessible to everyone who needed it. That dream is now a reality that serves thousands of Michiganders every year, and Ian continues to carry that vision forward as our Board Chair.

Thank you, Ian, for your leadership, your heart, and for trusting us with your family’s legacy.
