🚨 THIS is why you don't get pierced with a piercing gun, “medical-grade piercing device,” or whatever fancy name they're calling it. 🚨
Look at the scar tissue in this photo. This is what can happen when a blunt piece of jewelry is forced through cartilage instead of being properly pierced with a sterile, sharp needle. Piercing guns can cause crush-type trauma, tissue damage, excessive scarring, and even shattered cartilage.
And look at the earring pictured below. THAT is what is being punched through your cartilage. 😳
Ask yourself:
❌ Is the equipment truly sterile?
❌ Is the person properly trained meeting State Board of Health requirements?
❌ Do they understand anatomy and proper placement?
❌ Is the jewelry actually appropriate for a fresh piercing?
❌ Is the jewelry properly sized for YOUR anatomy?
❌ What health and sterilization standards are they required to meet?
Then people wonder why their piercing has:
• Bumps
• Constant soreness
• Excessive swelling
• Crooked placement
• Prolonged healing
• Scarring
• Infection
• Jewelry that becomes embedded
This is why.
And please don't let the words “hypoallergenic,” “medical grade,” or “surgical steel” automatically convince you that you're getting quality jewelry.
Stainless steel is not recommended by health care professionals in new piercing. In a fresh piercing, you want jewelry made from a material with recognized implant standards. Implant-grade titanium, such as ASTM F-136 titanium, is one of the materials recommended for initial piercings.
A professional piercing should involve sterile, single-use equipment, proper anatomy assessment, appropriate jewelry, correct sizing, and proper sterilization practices.
💥 CHEAP ISN'T ALWAYS CHEAPER.
You may save a few dollars getting pierced somewhere that uses a gun or questionable equipment, but you could end up spending MUCH more trying to correct the damage afterward.
DO YOUR RESEARCH.
Research the piercer.
Research the jewelry.
Research the piercing you're wanting.
And remember—just because someone calls themselves a “professional” doesn't mean they are performing professional-quality piercings.
Your body is worth doing it right the first time. ❤️
