MYTH: A firmer pillow means better neck support.

Firm isn’t the point. Height is.

If the pillow is too tall, your neck bends up all night. If it’s too flat, it drops down. Either way your neck is out of line for hours. Firm or soft doesn’t fix that.

Side sleepers usually need more height to fill the gap between the shoulder and the head. Back sleepers usually need less.

So the useful question is “does this hold my neck level the way I actually sleep?” How hard it feels doesn’t tell you that.

Side or back, which one are you? 👇

Do the math on your week.

PT, maybe once or twice. Stretches, if you remember. Ten minutes.

Then 7 or 8 hours every night with your neck resting on something you probably grabbed off a shelf years ago and never thought about again.

We put a lot of effort into the hour of treatment. Almost none into the 50 hours of recovery.

Most people never look at the pillow. They should.

🪑 **6 Sitting Mistakes That May Make Sciatica Pain Worse**

Did you know that the way you sit can affect your lower back and sciatic nerve? Spending too much time in one position or sitting with poor posture may increase discomfort.

⚠️ Here are 6 common sitting mistakes to avoid:

1️⃣ Slouching or rounding your back
2️⃣ Sitting for too long without breaks
3️⃣ Using a hard or unsupportive chair
4️⃣ Crossing your legs for extended periods
5️⃣ Sitting too low or too high
6️⃣ Leaning forward or to one side

💙 **Simple ways to sit better:**
✅ Choose a supportive, ergonomic chair
✅ Keep your back in a comfortable, neutral position
✅ Keep your feet flat on the floor
✅ Take regular movement breaks
✅ Try gentle stretches within your comfort level

Small changes to your daily sitting habits may help you manage discomfort and support better posture.

Forgetting words mid-sentence. Rereading the same paragraph three times. Feeling foggy on bad neck days.

A lot of people with chronic neck pain notice this and never connect the two. Here's what's actually going on, and why it's not all in your head.

Introduction: The Fog You Cannot Explain You wake up with a stiff, aching neck — again. By mid-morning you cannot remember where you left your keys,

Myth: surgery is the only real fix for bad neck pain.

Surgery is the right call for some people, and for some conditions it changes everything. But many people with neck pain improve without it, through PT, time, better sleep setups, injections, or a mix.

The important part is knowing why surgery is being recommended and being comfortable getting a second opinion.

Were you ever told you needed neck surgery? Did you get a second opinion?

"Why does my neck hurt?" can take years and a stack of appointments to answer.

"What makes it worse?" you can start answering this week. Is it worse in the morning or at night? After driving, after work, after a certain pillow? Is it better after a walk?

Write it down for two weeks. Patterns show up fast. And when you bring that to a doctor or PT, you're not just saying "it hurts." You're giving them clues.

What's the one thing that makes yours worse every time?

If you could go back to your first year of neck pain, what's one thing you'd tell yourself?

The thing you had to learn the hard way. Someone reading this is in year one right now.

Myth: if it doesn't hurt while you're doing it, it's not the problem.

Neck pain loves a delay. You paint the ceiling, carry groceries, or sleep on a hotel pillow and feel fine. Then the next morning you can't turn your head.

That lag is why so many people never figure out their triggers.

What's the thing you always pay for the next day?

Count them up.

The Primary Care Doc. The Spine specialist. The Physical therapist who gave you a sheet of exercises. The one who barely looked up from the screen. The one who said “let’s wait and see” twice.

Lots of appointments, not much progress.

When the result is a sore neck and a stack of copays, it’s easy to decide nothing works.

Usually the problem is the fit. Some providers rush you. Some listen. Some treat your scan. Some treat you.

The right one can change everything. And they’re out there. They just aren’t always the first one you see.

It's not one bad move that wrecks your neck. It's staying in one position for hours.

A weekend binge on the couch with your head propped on the armrest. A long drive. Scrolling in bed with your chin on your chest. None of it hurts in the moment. Then Monday shows up.

Your neck likes to move. Even small position changes every 20 to 30 minutes add up.

What position does your neck hate the most?
