If I could get every patient to change one household product, I’d start in the laundry room.
Think about it: your detergent touches almost everything that touches you.
Your clothes.
Your underwear.
Your pajamas.
Your sheets.
Your towels.
All day. Every night. Over and over again.
And no, I don’t think your laundry detergent is the cause of every headache, skin flare, hormone issue, or weird symptom you’re experiencing.
But I do think we underestimate the things that quietly add to the bucket.
Poor sleep. Stress. Hormone changes. Antibiotics. Mold or other environmental exposures. Personal care products. Fragrance. Diet. The list goes on.
Sometimes the goal isn’t to figure out which one thing is causing everything.
Sometimes it’s simply to ask:
What can I take OUT of the bucket?
And when it’s not obvious? That’s part of what we do at Natural Health Practices. We help you look at your individual stressors, exposures, and patterns and test what may be adding stress to your system, rather than assuming everyone reacts to the same things.
Laundry is one of my favorite places to start because it’s relatively easy, it doesn’t require you to overhaul your entire life, and it reduces an exposure you’re in contact with almost constantly.
Start simple:
→ Swap your detergent
→ Ditch the scent beads
→ Retire the dryer sheets
→ Use less product than you think you need
One change at a time. Start with the laundry.
