The American Academy of Pediatricsโ Bright Futures schedule recommends structured preventive visits from infancy through age 21, with annual visits after early childhood. For adults, there is not one universal โfull physicalโ frequency that applies to everyone; preventive care is usually based on age, s*x, risk factors, and which screenings are due. The CDC emphasizes staying current with preventive services such as cancer screenings, vaccinations, and chronic disease checks.
Common screening timing includes: blood pressure at least annually for adults 40+ or those at higher risk, and every 3โ5 years for low-risk adults ages 18โ39 with normal readings; colorectal cancer screening starting at age 45 through 75; diabetes screening for adults 35โ70 who have overweight or obesity; and cervical cancer screening generally every 3โ5 years from ages 21โ65 depending on the test used.
A simple rule: children and seniors should generally be seen yearly; adults under 40 can often go every 1โ3 years if healthy; adults 40+ should strongly consider an annual wellness visit. People with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma/COPD, cancer history, pregnancy, immune problems, or multiple medications may need visits every 3โ6 months or as directed by their clinician.
