There's a real difference between killing bacteria and helping your mouth find its natural balance, and that distinction is at the heart of some interesting research out of the University of Minnesota this spring. Scientists found that instead of killing bacteria outright, interrupting the chemical signals they use to communicate with each other helped healthy bacteria thrive while keeping the harmful ones in check.
