Tethan’s and South Shore Tattoo to release LIMITED EDITION FIZZY PEBBLES bar at Euro Market on Saturday July 4
If you’re looking for a blast of nostalgia, go no further than the breakfast cereal aisle at Strack, that most liminal of spaces, where time appears to have stopped in 1969 and the blandishments of the Cap’n and the kaleidoscopic technicolor of the boxes magick us back to our childhood.
Certainly Jennifer Gilbert of Tethan’s Candy & Confections and Nic Bender of South Shore Tattoo remember those perfect Saturday mornings, wolfing bowls of neon sugar and watching cartoons just as loudly saccharine.
Gilbert and Bender recently had the opportunity to ponder together what a homage to breakfast cereal might taste like in the form of a chocolate bar. Plundering the flavors, colors, and Saturday morning vibe of their own youth, they created the FIZZY PEBBLES bar, a LIMITED EDITION delicacy which Tethan’s will begin selling at the European Market on Saturday, July 4.
Turns out, the improbable partnership of a confectioner and a tattooist wasn’t improbable at all.
“We first met Nic Bender of South Shore Tattoo when we were neighbors at our original location in The Factory,” Gilbert recalls. “Over the years we've gotten to know Nic as a talented artist and a huge supporter of our community, so when he came to us with an idea for a chocolate bar collaboration, we knew we had to make it happen. Fizzy Pebbles features fruity flavors inspired by a favorite childhood cereal with the addition of popping candy and a wrapper designed by Nic. We know you'll love this unique twist on some nostalgic flavors.”
“It’s a true collaboration between two local businesses based on a mutual love of craftsmanship, design, and branding,” Bender says. “For me it was another medium to create in. I wanted to make a unique and also memorable experience that is also a lot of fun. The main goal was to create a candy bar that you would never forget as a kid. Also, I’m a huge fan of candy.”
FIZZY PEBBLES is this week’s LIMITED EDITION bar at Tethan’s. Get your own on Saturday, July 4, at the European Market. But look for a new limited edition the next Saturday and another new one the Saturday after that.
“We’ve been doing a different limited edition bar for every European Market Saturday,” Gilbert says. “The goal is to keep that up for every Saturday during market season.”
