What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment that delivers high-energy acoustic pressure waves through the skin into injured soft tissue. A handheld applicator is placed over the treatment area, and rapid pulses of mechanical energy are transmitted into the tendon below.
No needles, no incisions, no anesthesia. Sessions last five to ten minutes, and a typical course involves three to five visits spaced about a week apart.
Understanding Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow- clinically, lateral epicondylitis- causes pain on the outside of the elbow that often radiates into the forearm, aggravated by gripping and lifting. Most people who develop it have never played tennis; it comes from repetitive forearm loading of any kind.
Research has changed how this condition is understood. Once considered an inflammatory problem, it’s now recognized as a degenerative one: the tendon has attempted to heal and stalled partway through. That explains why anti-inflammatory approaches often provide only temporary relief — the underlying problem isn’t inflammation, but a repair process that never finished.
