FEBRUARY SELF CARE REFLECTION

I read the ballad of Mulan and loved it. The movie was...inaccurate as far as cultural pieces, but it was fun. And, the story of Mulan is inspiring as hell! It made me think... why not ONLY watch movies that inspire me?

BODY: I think I did this workout once or twice over the whole month. I got a cold for most of the month instead. I used to think that running while sick was the best way to go for me, but after listening to my body and doing some research, I learned that if symptoms are below the shoulders (fatigue, congestion, difficulty breathing) than rest is best. If symptoms are only above the shoulders (stuffy or runny nose, upper sinus congestion), then light exercise is ok.

SPIRIT: I did not get out to the Columbia Gorge, but I did take a walk in my own neighborhood every week. I really like the habit of going on a weekly neighborhood stroll. I think I'll keep it for awhile.

ATTACHMENT: I learned that I enjoy shared smiles, holding hands, when my partner wraps their arms around me from behind and hugs me, and a little squeeze on the arm or shoulder as they pass by.

PLEASURE: Throne of Glass was a really fun book! I loved it. I think I'm going to read the whole series.

Hello Everyone! I haven't been keeping up with my posts and I wanted to let you know why.

I started posting blogs thinking I would be able to write and post one each week. Life complications over the last year have made it so I haven't been able to take care of myself and keep up with posts. I know that taking care of myself is most important and its important to me not to just dissappear on anyone.

I will be taking the next few months to rest and write. I plan to get back as soon as possible.

I will do one more post to share my reflection on my self care routine for Feb. And then I will be taking a posting pause.

Wishing you all a lovely spring!

Remember to love yourself too ❤️❤️❤️

FEBRUARY SELF CARE:

Every month I decide on what will make my month great. I choose 1 thing to focus on per category. I'd like to get better at sharing my plans and reflections with you all.

MIND: Read the "Ballad of Mulan." I've wanted to see the live action movie Mulan for quite some time. I will watch it this month, but I also want to make myself more aware of the cultural significance behind the movie, which stems from the "Ballad of Mulan." My bachelor's degree in Asian history taught me that western countries have many incorrect assumptions and storues about Asian cultures. Mulan is no exception. Disney, while fun and entertaining, usually fails to shed light or accuracy in their stories. I think it's ok to enjoy the fun of entertainment. But I think it's worth more to seek out the real story and strive to empathize why this powerful tale is so impactful across the world.

BODY: I have been dying to make some workouts by a regular habit. I think this is the month!

SPIRIT: There is nothing that connects me to myself and the universe we all share more than a hike. I plan to get 1 or 2 hikes in this month.

ATTACHMENT: Attachment theory is a theory in psychology that makes connections between patterns of learned behavior in childhood and then repeated in adult relationships. Most of us have some sort of insecure attachment history. The goal is to find ways to be secure in yourself and use healthy strategies to connect in adult relationships. You can learn about atachment theory by speaking with your therapist. Some places I expanded my learning about attachment are through the and reading Polysecure. This month, I am going to find some ways I enjoy physical connection with romantic partners through nons*xual touch. S*x is a great way to connect with my partner, but s*x is not always an option.

PLEASURE: Read the fantasy novel Throne of Glass by I find it incredibly rewarding to to have something that is purely for pleasure and purely for myself.

I'll let you all know how it goes! Have you ever done one of these things? What's your self care for February 2023?

SELF CARE DESIRES for DECEMBER
Every month, I make a list of things I want to do to take care of my body, mind, and heart. What will you do for self care this month?

This month:

BODY

I want to prioritize going to my gym class 2 days a week. I always feel so strong and accomplished after I go.

I went to to soak my bones with a friend. I absolutely adore this space and always feel rejuvenated afterward.

MIND

Part of self care for me is self growth. I want to show up as the best person I can be, with an abundance of love and empathy. You can only love others as deeply as you love yourself. You can only understand others as deeply as you understand yourself. This month, I am reading "How to be an Anti-Racist" by Ibram X. Kendi I know that racism is something I hold within me because I grew up in a racist culture. If I do not interrogate my own thoughts and beliefs, I cannot shed racism.

Another part of my mind is creativity - every year, I make a vision board of goals, priorities, values, and bucket list items I want for the following year. This year, I invited friends over and made hot apple cider with bourbon and coconut whip cream. It was delightful!

HEART
As some of you know, my partner of 10 years and I transitioned out of a romantic partnership and are working towards friendship. I am working with a therapist to heal wounds that were inevitable of 2 young people in love and without all the tools needed to navigate love. I am so looking forward to reconnecting when we're both ready.

I am also prioritizing waterfall hikes and a ski trip for new years. Time spent in nature is nurturing to my inner self.

A REMINDER FOR THIS HOLIDAY SEASON:

Having good boundaries is PART of a healthy relationship. Not something that happens because a relationship is failing.

Boundaries are something you set for yourself, not other people. They are strategies used to navigate how you operate in an environment, not to control other people. You can choose how you respond to other peoples' actions and you can tell them how you are likely to respond. They can choose how they act. Defining boundaries sets up expectations around behaviors and responses.

Examples of boundaries:

"If you make comments about my weight at our family gathering this weekend, I will leave early."

"I don't want to participate in diet talk. I won't be commenting on anything in this area."

If you need help setting healthy boundaries around food, weight and body image, DM me and I will write out a response for you.

Another great resource for setting boundaries of all types is

I highly recommend them.

I hope this helps you have the best holiday season!!

GLUTEN, DAIRY FREE PROTEIN PANCAKES

Link to recipe in bio!!

I developed this recipe because I miss eating pancakes without feeling like garbage afterward. With regular pancakes, the high sugar in the morning causes me to crash hard, and the lack of protein leaves me feeling hungry before lunchtime.

I've tried various "keto" and "protein" pancakes, but I hate the after taste of powdered proteins. And, many protein powders have dairy in them.

These pancakes are half egg. They leave me feeling satisfied, full, and energized for my day. They also make great snacks and freeze well to save for later.

Try them with fresh fruit, yogurt, honey, or whatever else you want on your pancakes!!
