Summit Research is a medical research organization in Portland, Oregon. Since 1976, Summit Research has worked in cooperation with pharmaceutical companies to develop new medical treatments for various of conditions by conducting 500+ clinical trials. With decades of experience, Summit Research Network provides the most advanced clinical research, including our Memory Health Center, to help develop better treatments and better future health for individuals with psychiatric, dementia, age related memory issues and many other health conditions. For many of our patients, this is a first step in getting help and gaining information about their medical illness or condition. Our staff provides every qualified patient with assessments, monitoring during the study and help finding follow-up treatment once a study has been completed. Summit Research warmly welcomes Dr. Andre Barkhuizen to the research team! Dr. Barkhuizen is a Board-Certified Rheumatologist with 25 years of clinical research expertise.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, camping and all types of water sport including water skiing, wake boarding, windsurfing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. He is an avid supporter of the South African Springbok rugby team and University of Oregon sports, his daughter and son’s alma mater.

It's estimated that 1 in 10 adults worldwide have diabetes and over 90% have Type 2 Diabetes and its complications may be delayed or prevented by adopting and maintaining healthy habits. World Diabetes Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes as a global health issue, its risks, and how to support prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment.

It's celebrated on November 14th to mark the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who discovered the insulin hormone along with Charles Herbert Best in 1922. This ushered in a new era of diagnosis and treatment opportunities across the world.

October is Lewey Body Dementia Awareness Month. Lewey Body Dementia is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s Disease. It is estimated that 7.4 million Americans are living with either disease, learn the differences today.

Summit Research is actively enrolling in both Lewey Body Dementia and Alzheimer’s trials. Call 503-228-2273 to find out if you or a loved one qualifies to participate.
