Earlier this summer, the OHSU neurosurgery team successfully implanted the investigational neurostimulator that targets the Hemodynamic Hotspot - a region in the thoracic spinal cord containing a high density of neurons that regulate blood pressure.

Empower BP is a global clinical study evaluating the safety and effectiveness of the implantable ARC-IM System, which is designed to address symptomatic blood pressure instability in individuals following a chronic spinal cord injury.

OHSU is proud to be one of the active centers in the U.S. participating in this clinical trial. You can learn more about the ARC-IM System on ONWARD Medical’s website: https://onwd.com/empower-bp/

When Rich Denman and Jerry Jones line up with the Movers & Shakers Portland team for this year's Hood & Portland To Coast Relays (Official Page), they'll be doing more than covering miles. They'll be raising awareness for Parkinson's disease and showing what can be possible with support, exercise and community.

The brothers-in-law, both living with Parkinson's, have turned their diagnoses into an opportunity to encourage others. Whether participating in research, serving on OHSU's Parkinson's Patient Advisory Committee, hiking with Passtopass or connecting with fellow participants through Movers & Shakers, they remain committed to helping others stay active and engaged.

Their message is simple: A Parkinson's diagnosis may change the journey, but it doesn't have to define it.

OHSU-led research is the largest study of psychedelics outside clinical trials.

A team at OHSU this month became the first in Oregon to implant a new type of radioactive tile roughly the size of a postage stamp to improve the outcome for patients with brain tumors.

The tile, called GammaTile, is a biodegradable collagen implant that encases a concentrated dose of radiation in the tissue directly surrounding the area after the surgeon has removed the tumor, a technique also known as brachytherapy.

Targeted radiation therapy aims to improve survival, prevent tumor recurrence.
