HANTAVIRUS: WHAT TO KNOW
Hantavirus is VERY rare, especially in the PNW (it tends to thrive in drier climates) but when it occurs, it can be serious and early awareness matters.
Most infections happen from inhaling particles contaminated by rodent urine, droppings, or saliva (especially in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces). It is not typically spread person-to-person (although we’re keeping close eyes on this new strain 👀)
Swipe through to learn:
• Early symptoms to watch for
• When to seek urgent care
• How exposure actually happens
• Simple, practical prevention steps
💡 The key takeaway: it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that any one person will get hantavirus, but prevention steps are always a good idea. Reach out to your provider/ schedule a visit if you have any concerns. And if you’ve had any contact with someone known to have hantavirus or recently were on a cruise and have new onset symptoms, get seen IMMEDIATELY.
