Greater Kansas City APIC The Greater Kansas City APIC Chapter is dedicated to the prevention of Healthcare Acquired Infections in the Kansas City Metro and surrounding areas.

July 7, 1970 A group of 6 Infection Control Practitioners (ICP's) in the area met for the first time at St. Joseph Hospital (Lindwood & Prospect streets). They were called the Kansas City Area Infection Control Association. Barbara Wimer (Baptist Memorial Hospital) was elected Chairperson. October 1970 The Association was accepted as an organization by the Greater Kansas City Area Hospital As

sociation.

1972 National APIC was formed.

1975 Local chapters were proposed by National. November 1, 1977 The Greater Kansas City Area APIC was accepted as a chapter with 31 members. Karen Shick, Research Medical Center was the first President of our chapter 031. Today, the Greater Kansas City APIC Chapter has over 130 members from Kansas and Missouri. Our chapter is committed to being an invaluable infection prevention resource for the community.
