Grief doesn’t always hurt the most at the beginning.

Sometimes the first weeks and months are about survival—making arrangements, handling paperwork, accepting help, and simply getting through each day.

Then life gets quiet.

The calls slow down. People return to their routines. And the reality of the loss can begin to settle in differently.
You realize they really aren’t coming back.

If you’re 10 months, 12 months, 18 months, or even 2 years into grief and finding yourself struggling more than you were before, you are not doing grief wrong.

Grief is not a straight road away from pain. Sometimes healing takes us directly through it.

A difficult season doesn’t erase the healing you’ve already done.
It simply means you’re missing someone who mattered deeply—and learning how to live in a world that changed when they left it.

Be gentle with yourself. There is no expiration date on grief.

This is TIP.

Leaders from TIP affiliates across the country came together in Boise this weekend to learn from one another, share ideas, strengthen connections, and spend time with people who understand this work.

Different communities. Different programs. One shared mission: supporting people in the immediate aftermath of tragedy.

A huge thank you to for hosting us in Boise and making us feel so welcome throughout the weekend.

We came home with new ideas, stronger connections, and 361 photos and 9 videos… so there’s definitely more to come.
