🎀 Have You Scheduled Your Mammogram? 🎀

A mammogram is one of the most important tools we have for detecting breast cancer early, often before symptoms develop.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that women at average risk begin screening mammography at age 40 and continue regular screening to help detect breast cancer at its earliest and most treatable stages.

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women, but early detection saves lives.

Take a moment today to ask yourself:

✅ Am I due for a mammogram?
✅ Have I scheduled my screening this year?
✅ Do I know my family history and breast cancer risk factors?

If you are due for your mammogram, don't put it off. A simple screening can make a lifesaving difference.

Talk with your provider about the screening schedule that is right for you.

💗 Prioritize your health. Schedule your mammogram today.

🌸 Menopause Minute from Harbour Women's Health 🌸

Did you know?

Current guidance from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) recommends that hormone therapy is generally not started for the first time after age 60 or more than 10 years from a woman's final menstrual period.

Why? As we get further from menopause, the risks of starting hormone therapy, including blood clots, stroke, and heart disease, may outweigh the benefits for many women.

If you're experiencing bothersome menopausal symptoms, don't assume it's too late to find relief. There are many treatment options available, including hormonal and nonhormonal therapies. The best choice depends on your individual health history, symptoms, and goals.

If you have questions about menopause or would like to discuss your options, our providers are here to help.

🤰🩺 Routine Pregnancy Testing: Helping Keep You and Baby Healthy 🩺🤰

Prenatal care includes a variety of routine tests designed to monitor your health and your baby's development throughout pregnancy. These tests help identify potential concerns early, allowing your healthcare team to provide the best possible care.

Some common tests during pregnancy include:

🩸 Early Pregnancy Blood Work
Tests may include a complete blood count (CBC), blood type and Rh factor, and screening for infections such as hepatitis, HIV, rubella immunity, and certain sexually transmitted infections.

🚻 Urine Testing
Routine urine tests can help detect urinary tract infections, kidney concerns, and other conditions that may affect pregnancy.

🧬 Genetic Screening Options
Screening tests are available to assess the risk of certain chromosomal conditions and birth defects. These options are offered to all pregnant patients, and participation is always your choice.

🍭 Gestational Diabetes Screening
Typically performed during the second trimester, this test helps identify diabetes that develops during pregnancy.

👶 Ultrasound Exams
Ultrasounds allow us to monitor your baby's growth and development. A detailed anatomy ultrasound is usually performed between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy.

🦠 Group B Strep (GBS) Screening
Near the end of pregnancy, a simple screening test checks for Group B Strep, a common bacteria that can be treated during labor if needed.

Every pregnancy is unique, and your provider will discuss which tests are recommended based on your individual health history and pregnancy journey.

Questions about prenatal testing? Our team is here to help you feel informed, supported, and confident every step of the way. 💜

🩺💙 Group B Strep (GBS): What Every Expectant Parent Should Know 💙🩺

Group B Streptococcus, commonly called Group B Strep (GBS), is a common type of bacteria that many adults carry naturally without symptoms. During pregnancy, however, GBS can be passed to a baby during labor and delivery, which is why screening is an important part of prenatal care.

📅 When is testing done?
Most pregnant patients are screened for GBS between 36 and 38 weeks of pregnancy with a simple swab of the va**na and re**um. The test is quick, easy, and routine.

✅ What if my test is positive?
A positive result does not mean you are sick or that your baby will become ill. If you test positive, antibiotics are typically given during labor to greatly reduce the risk of passing GBS to your baby.

💜 The good news: Routine screening and treatment have made Group B Strep infections in newborns much less common, helping keep both moms and babies healthy.

If you have questions about Group B Strep testing or any aspect of your prenatal care, our team is here to help guide you every step of the way.

🌸 Understanding Puberty: Answers to Common Questions Parents Ask 🌸

Puberty can be an exciting, confusing, and sometimes overwhelming time for both parents and daughters. Knowing what to expect can help make these changes feel a little less intimidating.

Some of the most common questions parents ask include:

💗 How do I know if puberty has started?
For most girls, the first sign of puberty is breast development. Other changes, such as growth of p***c and underarm hair, growth spurts, and eventually menstruation, typically follow.

🩸 When will my daughter get her first period?
On average, girls begin menstruation around age 12½, typically about two years after breast development begins. Every child develops at her own pace, and a wide range of timing is considered normal.

📏 Will she keep growing after her first period?
Most of a girl's growth occurs before her first period. While some additional growth may occur afterward, the largest growth spurt is usually completed before menstruation begins.

Open conversations, trusted resources, and regular healthcare visits can help girls feel confident and supported as they navigate these important milestones.

Questions about puberty, periods, or adolescent health? Our team is here to help. 💜
