June is PTSD Awareness Month.

PTSD is often misunderstood. It’s not simply “being stuck in the past” or “not being able to move on.” PTSD is a response to experiences that overwhelmed a person’s ability to cope and left lasting effects on the nervous system, body, emotions, and relationships.

PTSD can look like:
• Intrusive memories or nightmares
• Feeling constantly on guard or unsafe
• Avoidance of reminders of the trauma
• Emotional numbness or disconnection
• Irritability, anger, or difficulty concentrating
• Shame, guilt, or negative beliefs about yourself
• Difficulty trusting others or feeling close to people
…and more…

Trauma affects people differently, and not everyone’s symptoms are visible from the outside.

Healing is possible. With the right support, many people learn to process traumatic experiences, reconnect with themselves, and build lives that feel meaningful and fulfilling again.

If you’re struggling, know that your reactions make sense in the context of what you’ve been through. You do not have to carry it alone.

At Hearth & Healing Mental Health Therapy, we honor the courage it takes to heal and recognize that recovery is not about forgetting what happened—it’s about helping your mind and body learn that the danger has passed. Whether you're exploring your identity, navigating relationships, healing from past experiences, managing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply looking for support, you are welcome here.

You deserve a place where you don't have to leave parts of yourself at the door.

This Pride Month and every month, we celebrate the courage it takes to be yourself.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, it's worth remembering that mental health doesn't operate on a calendar.

Our mental health needs matters in January when motivation feels low. It matters in July when life feels overwhelming. It matters on ordinary Tuesdays when we're carrying stress, grief, anxiety, burnout, or simply the weight of being human.

Awareness is important. It helps reduce stigma, encourages conversations, and reminds people they are not alone. But awareness is only the beginning.

The real work happens year-round:
🌿 Checking in with ourselves honestly.
🌿 Reaching out when we need support.
🌿 Learning healthier ways to cope.
🌿 Setting boundaries.
🌿 Resting without guilt.
🌿 Extending compassion to ourselves and others.

Mental health is not something we "fix" once and move on from. It's an ongoing relationship with ourselves—one that deserves attention, care, and patience throughout every season of life.

As May ends, may we continue to create spaces where people feel safe to ask for help, share their stories, and remember that healing is possible.

You don't have to wait for Mental Health Awareness Month to prioritize your well-being.

Your mental health matters every day of the year.

I never thought I’d be saying this in such a short time after moving into private practice, but we are in “waitlist” territory, so if you are thinking about reaching out for mental therapy for yourself, your marriage/relationship, or your kiddo/teenager….Don’t wait or hesitate, get on the list.

If you can't wait, or we aren't a good fit - we can provide the details of someone who is...

Also, PLEASE stayed tuned because ….New services are coming in late summer, which will allow for Kristen to serve more folks intentionally, but for now the demand is high and time is finite. getting on our waitlist will put you first in line for what is to come!

With humility and fierce compassion for all (because I am absolutely not a five star hotel, lol), I want to say....Thanks to the community for showing up for yourself! Putting in the work for yourself is so important and sacred and ... It puts food on a local family’s table 🫶🏼🙏
