AI can create your “perfect” face in seconds. But can surgery actually create it?

More patients are bringing AI-generated images of themselves into plastic surgery consultations, using them as a reference for the changes they’d like to see.

And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

AI can be a useful way to communicate what you’re drawn to, whether it’s a different profile, facial proportions, jawline or a more refreshed appearance. But AI works with pixels. A surgeon works with your anatomy, bone structure, tissue and proportions.

A day inside the OR: documenting the people, preparation, teamwork and precision behind a facelift at NYFACEMD.

This case was performed by Dr. Nick Randall, our current Facial Plastic Surgery Fellow from Mount Sinai, alongside Dr. Manoj Abraham, who serves as Co-Director of the Facial Plastic Surgery Fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Our fellowship program gives patients the option to have surgery at a reduced surgical fee while still benefiting from Dr. Abraham’s experience throughout the procedure. He doesn’t simply oversee from a distance. Dr. Abraham operates alongside the fellow, providing direct guidance and working together throughout the case.

These photos offer a glimpse at what patients don’t normally see: the preparation before surgery begins, the coordination of the surgical team, the care surrounding the patient, and the precision that goes into the work itself.

Because the final result is only one part of the story.
