September is a hard month for me. Some losses never really leave you. Life keeps moving, the grief changes, but you carry it with you.
Fair warning, this might make some of y’all uncomfortable. Su***de isn’t an easy thing to talk about… but that’s exactly why we need to.
September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. In 2024, 48,824 people in the U.S. died by su***de. Another 14.3 million adults seriously considered it. Those aren’t just numbers. Every single one of them is somebody’s person.
Too often, we only talk about su***de after someone is already gone — the signs we missed, the conversations we wish we would’ve had.
I hope we get better at having the hard conversations before it’s too late.
When you come to Tats by Court, if you need to talk to someone, I’m all ears. There’s no judgment. That tattoo chair has already seen its fair share of unlicensed therapy, tears, venting, prayers, and conversations that are really freaking hard to have. Sometimes people just need someone willing to listen.
So please, check on your people. Ask the uncomfortable questions. Tell them you love them. Be someone they can call when s**t gets heavy. And let yourself call someone when you’re the one carrying too much.
If that’s you right now, please stay.
You are not alone. You are needed here. You are loved. 🩵💜
If you’re struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. It’s free, confidential, and available 24/7.
I also have free 988 magnets at the studio — take one (or 5). Stick it on your fridge, throw it in your car, or give it to someone you love. You never know who might need that number someday.
And if you want a permanent reminder to keep going, to hold onto your faith, or to carry the memory of someone you love, I’ll leave my Mental Health Awareness + Faith flash sheets in the comments. They’re always available on my website. 🤍
