Advocacy In Action

When Huntington’s new senior center opened in mid-2025, seniors quickly discovered that accessing the facility from the parking lot was difficult due to the placement of the curb cuts. Arven H., a longtime Active Re-Entry consumer, recognized the problem and
began advocating for a ramp to provide safer, easier access to
the building entrance. He made it his personal goal to improve
accessibility for all seniors who use the center.
Arven spoke with Active Re-Entry staff, senior center staff and administration, the Emery County Commission, and other community members about the issue. Through months of
persistence and advocacy, he continued to raise awareness and
promote a practical solution. As a result of his efforts, a new ramp was constructed, significantly improving access to the senior center for everyone. Active Re-Entry would like to thank Arven for his dedication to advocacy and his commitment to improving his community. His efforts demonstrate how one person’s determination can create positive change and benefit many others.
