It’s been a while since the last update, but alas here we are. The last two years have been busy! In May 2025, Mass General denied Chad for a kidney transplant due to cardiac related reasons. In July 2025, Chad went to the ER with chest pain where they confirmed two major blockages in the heart, one 98% and the other 86%. He was sent home and was scheduled for a procedure at Mass General to fix the blockage in early November. However, he was admitted to Mass General via ambulance mid-October where they had to do two emergency procedures to fix the blockage. He then went back 2 weeks later where more stents were placed to fix the blockage. His third (& hopefully final) cardiac procedure was done in January 2026, which finally fixed all of the blockages. Chad went to cardiac rehab for 10 weeks and physical therapy for 8 weeks before being re-evaluated for a kidney transplant.
In June 2026, Mass General & RI Hospital both declared Chad ineligible for transplant due to his blood vessels being too calcified. Chad will continue his daily dialysis routine for the foreseeable future. The five daily CAPD exchanges he does himself takes up the majority of his time, but he tries to live as normal a life as possible.
While the denial for transplant is a major setback, there are other options to pursue so we are remaining positive. Til the next time, keep smiling 😊!
