When patients lose coverage, their medical needs don’t disappear. Care is still delivered, but the costs shift to hospitals, stretching resources and putting access to care at risk for every Rhode Islander.

Jacob Bissaillon for State Senate's Bill ,S.3091—the Hospital Access & Uncompensated Care Act—helps ensure hospitals are reimbursed for the care they provide, so they can continue to maintain the staff and services Rhode Islanders depend on.

What may seem like a technical policy change can have real consequences for patients.

Changes to insurer policies, like expanding hospital readmission windows, can result in denied payment for medically necessary care.

Patients still need treatment. Hospitals still provide the care.
But reimbursement may be denied.

HARI urges passage of H.7862, sponsored by Rep. Mia Ackerman, which would prevent these mid-contract changes and help protect access to care for Rhode Islanders.
