When things get bad, people always say, “Just take a deep breath!” but most people don’t understand what that means. So here you go! The absolute best way to quiet your mind & body, step-by-step.
1. Take a moment to quiet your mind then inhale slowly and deeply through your nose blowing up your entire belly. Don’t just puff out your chest but breathe so deeply that it feels like your entire torso is full of air way down below your navel even. Usually people can do this to the count of 3-4.
2. Hold it for 1 to 2 seconds focusing on the breath and letting your mind empty completely.
3. Then slowly release the air focusing on it coming up from below your navel and out of your mouth. Release it taking twice as long as it did to inhale. So usually to the count of 6-8. Or longer if you can.
4. The more you repeat this the more you will be forcing your body to relax.
Your brain and the rest of your body receives more oxygen. Your muscles relax. Focus on releasing everything. Release the tension in your body. Release the tension in your mind. Let everything go. Nothing is permanent. Life is transient. Our spirit has a temporary residence in a physical body on this earth. It was here before it came to earth. It will live beyond this physical body. What is happening now is only a blip in your eternity.
Smile. Focus on gratitude. Focus on all the beautiful blessings in your life. If things are really bad that might just be the beauty of a blue sky. The amazing iridescent colors of a peacock. The happiness you feel when you hear a child or a baby’s laughter. When you think about it there are tons of beautiful things in this life to be thankful for. You just have to find them and focus on them.
