We all need sleep.
And yet, when it comes to infants, sleep can seem desperately elusive.
Sleep is complicated.
Sleep is emotional.
Sleep is nuanced.
Sleep is necessary.
Sleep is personal.
Sleep is vulnerable.
Sleep is cultural.
Everyone has an opinion on sleep.
Sometimes disagreements become tense. Is there a right way and a wrong way to get babies to sleep? What does the research say?
The research says a few things, but there is room for more research to be done....a lot more research.
A simple internet search will unleash a tsunami of πŸ—£οΈ talk at you about infant sleep - some of it is good πŸ‘, and some of it is not πŸ˜”. A sleep-deprived parent is an easy mark for someone looking to make a quick buck.
I don’t want this for you. So, let’s break things down to the basics, and build something up that is specific to your life and your family. I will be with you each step of the way 🀝. This is not a quick turnaround and I get that. What I want to build for you are habits and routines that set your child up for healthier sleep throughout their life.
Navigating sleep in the early stages of parenting can feel complicated, my compassion for you in this space never will be.

Preeclampsia is more than β€œhigh blood pressure in pregnancy.”

It can affect the kidneys, liver, brain, blood, and placenta β€” and it can become serious quickly if symptoms are missed.

Some warning signs can include:
β€’ headache
β€’ visual changes
β€’ upper abdominal pain
β€’ swelling in the face or hands
β€’ elevated blood pressure
β€’ changes in lab work or urine testing

And here’s the important part: you do not need to wait until things feel β€œbad enough” to ask questions.

If something feels off in your body during pregnancy, it deserves attention.

Most cardiac emergencies that happen outside of a hospital happen at home.

That's why my goal is to train as many people in our community as possible. A confident bystander can double or even triple someone's chance of survival by starting CPR right away.

What we don't talk about enough is that there is a real possibility the person needing help could be someone you know and love.

That can feel overwhelming to think about.

But practicing these skills in a low-stress, supportive environment helps prepare you to respond when emotions and stress are running high.

CPR isn't only for healthcare professionals.

These skills are for parents, grandparents, caregivers, babysitters, teachers, coaches, and anyone who wants to be prepared.

Because emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere, and to anyone.
You can do this.

As this month πŸ’™ comes to an end I want to conclude with one last thought.
Spreading awareness about Preeclampsia is absolutely about saving the lives of women who are pregnant or who have just recently given birth.
AND it is also about saving the lives of women across the rest of their lifespan.
If Preeclampsia is a part of your pregnancy story, it needs to be brought out of the OB office and into the discussions with your Primary Care Provider.
And now you know why πŸ’ͺ.

As women and as Mamas, we are exceptionally good at carrying guilt when we don’t need to. So if you have experienced Preeclampsia and find yourself wondering if it was because you did something wrong, let me say this to you:
It is not your fault.
Let that mom guilt go.

When you hear talk about Preeclampsia πŸ’™, there are three terms that you will often see mentioned in those discussions: Eclampsia, HELLP Syndrome, and Gestational Hypertension. It’s helpful to know what these are in addition to knowing about Preeclampsia.
It is my goal for you to be an active participant in your health care journey 🀝, not just a recipient. And that comes through education πŸ‘©β€πŸ«, empowerment πŸ’ͺ, and preparation πŸ“‹ (as much as can be done) when big life events are on the horizon!
Pregnancy is a big life event! It is an honor to be in your corner supporting you. You got this!

Preeclampsia is personal to me.
May 22nd is World Preeclampsia πŸ’™ Awareness Day, and I would be so humbled if you could sit with me for 7 minutes and listen to my story 🀲. And then if you have a friend or family member who is pregnant, please consider sharing this with them.
Our ability to prevent the unimaginable is limited by our knowledge and understanding. I want to help raise awareness about Preeclampsia in the hopes that I can assist in lowering the devastating losses suffered every year due to this disease.
Preeclampsia rates are increasing, but the losses we suffer from it do not have to.
