Are you living in the “as soon as I...” trap?

Right now we are shifting out of summer and into the fall. Our schedules are ramping up and it’s easy to fall into habits that can make it difficult to find peace.

We tell ourselves that once we get our new routine down, or get through a rough week that things will calm down.

This is the Arrival Fallacy - it’s an illusion that true rest is waiting just on the other side of the to-do list. But when we finally cross the finish line, the relief doesn’t last.

Life will hand us demands and thus we begin the cycle again.

If you only allow yourself to rest or find joy when everything is checked off your list, you will never do it.

You don’t have to have everything figured out to deserve a break today.

How can you find a moment of peace in the middle of chaos this week?

Weekends can be so rejuvenating for us, that’s why it’s important to make the most of the time off you get.

-Tackling the chores early means that you don’t move throughout the day with the lingering to-do list in the background. Sometimes it can be hard to enjoy your time off if you’re thinking about all the dishes and laundry that still need to be finished.

-Planning an outing with a friend or going to a new restaurant can help you decide when to do other things. If you’re going to dinner at 6, maybe it would be a good idea to clean up around the house before heading to the restaurant.

-Spending time outside and off of your phone can put you in a good headspace to tackle the rest of your weekend, and even the week ahead.

-New experiences can make time feel like it is slowing down. So in order to make the weekend feel longer, try some new things, like cooking, knitting, reading, exercising etc.

We all have those days where we wake up and the anxiety is already sitting heavy on our chest.

When your nervous system is in overdrive, typical advice like 'just think positive' or 'take a deep breath' usually isn't enough to pull you out of the spiral. On high anxiety days, you need practical, physical tools to signal to your brain that you are actually safe.

These 4 steps are grounded in somatic therapy and nervous system regulation. They are designed to interrupt the physical symptoms of panic so your logical brain can come back to the forefront.

Remember: A high anxiety day is a day for maintenance, not maximum output. Lower the bar, be incredibly gentle with yourself, and focus strictly on taking the day one step at a time.

Guilt is a filler emotion. It serves a purpose - acting as a teacher - telling us when we should or should not do something again in the future. However, it is a pit that can be easy to fall into. Guilt can compound and feel overwhelming. Here are a few things you should remember to NOT feel guilty for.

Are you tying your self-worth to your productivity? We live in a culture that glorifies the hustle, which makes taking a break feel like a moral failure. But waiting until you are entirely depleted to finally rest is a fast track to burnout.

You do not have to cross everything off your list to deserve a moment to breathe. Rest is the maintenance that allows you to be productive in the first place.

Give yourself permission to do something that helps you recover physically, mentally, or emotionally for 20 minutes today!

The "Sunday Scaries" usually hit when our brains try to start solving Monday’s problems before the weekend is even over.

If you spend your Sundays dreading the week ahead, it’s time to actively reclaim your weekends. The three steps in this post are designed to help you shift out of anticipatory anxiety and back into the present moment. Here’s the psychology behind why they work:

Morning Brain Dump: When you wake up with racing thoughts, your brain is holding onto your to-do list so you don't forget it. Writing it all down immediately offloads that pressure. The list is safe on paper, so your brain can stop looping and start resting.

Hold the Boundary: Sunday is still the weekend. Checking emails or Slack "just to get ahead" blurs the line between rest and demand, putting your nervous system on edge. Guard your time and let Monday's work wait until Monday.

Create a Sunday Ritual: When we dread the start of the week, Sunday can feel like a waiting room. Give yourself something specific to look forward to. This can look like your favorite takeout meal, a long walk, or a dedicated movie night. Shift the focus from what you are dreading to what you are enjoying.

How do you reclaim your time on the weekends? Let us know your favorite Sunday ritual below!

We have all been there. A friend takes a little too long to text back, or you make a small mistake at work, and suddenly your brain has fast-forwarded to the worst possible outcome.

This is called catastrophizing, or a 'thought spiral.' It happens when our nervous system feels threatened and tries to prepare us for danger by imagining every way things could go wrong.

The trick to managing a thought spiral isn't to try and 'solve' the fake problem your brain just invented. The trick is to interrupt the process.

The moment you realize you are spiraling, call it out. Say, 'I am spiraling right now.' Then, force your brain to look at the present moment. Not tomorrow, not next year. Right now.
What is one fact that is true in this exact moment? (e.g., 'I am sitting on my couch,' or 'I am safe.')

Save this post to use as a circuit-breaker the next time your thoughts start to run away from you.
