Getting out of your comfort zone is a necessary way to grow in something, whether it be in meeting new people and relationships, engaging in spiritual or physical growth, professional endeavors, etc. The list is huge.

You have to get to uncomfortable to become comfortable.

For me, as my growth as an oil painter continues, I took a leap in this next painting with bigger brush strokes and a more challenging figurative scene. I think it’s my best painting to date.

🗝️ There is often an overlooked side to injuries, and it’s a key component to being able to make a FULL recovery. 🗝️

Events like surgery and accidental injury (whether due to a car accident, sports injury, a fall, or an act of violence) can be accompanied by psychological trauma (such as PTSD) as well, whether we initially recognize the presence of trauma surrounding the event or not.

If you have endured a trauma in the past that activates a pain response, it’s ESSENTIAL to seek care and support for yourself emotionally in order to fully address lingering pain in your body.

This means that the complete remedy for healing ideally combines therapeutic movement AND working with a therapist or psychologist who can help you work through things like anxiety, increased stress, fear, and other thoughts and emotions that may be tied to the trauma you experienced.

To only address one side of your physical pain is to prolong the healing process, and while recognizing your need for additional support may be difficult, it will likely reap the most effective results in helping you regain your physical (and mental!) capacity.

I created the Burroughs Clinic to support your healing physically AND ensure that you feel like your best and whole self after an injury or loss of mobility.

*Deep Dive Tuesday’s. Bring your extra brain 🙂*

***Sources of the Pain Experience***

BIOLOGICAL: This component encompasses the traditional model, which includes looking at structure, posture, biomechanics, and anatomy.

These things are important because many people have pain issues that are driven by their tissues.

We look at how force and load affect the body and whether certain postures or movements trigger a person's pain.

"Bio" is necessary because we don't want to ignore the tissues of the body; in most cases, the problem really is mostly physical.

It is what rehab explores first, trying to figure out if the pain is linked to a mechanical problem with a biological tissue.

This is the acute pain phase-pain experienced immediately or soon after injury.

>Most people who have acute pain remain in "bio" territory, especially if they can point to some kind of physical trauma
