Ever had that pre-ring adrenaline where your hands tighten and your breath disappears? I have — more times than I care to admit. Here’s a simple, discreet trick I use in the tack to reset both me and my horse: the Mounted Vagus Reset.
1) Unclench your jaw and soften your leg. 2) Sit tall and look between your horse’s ears. 3) Keep your nose forward, then move only your eyes to the right. 4) Inhale deeply and hum on the exhale for 30–60 seconds. Repeat to the left.
When it works you’ll feel a small “system reboot” — a yawn, a deep sigh, or a swallow — and often your horse will mirror you with a head drop or a lick and chew.
