Reiki works on all levels of the body!
Reiki works with the body’s existing electrical system. Cells maintain membrane voltage by moving ions; nerves conduct as action potentials; the heart generates the strongest rhythmic field in the body. Healthy tissue depends on coherent voltage, ion flow, and autonomic rhythm. That organized current is what traditional language calls life energy.
Trauma, chronic stress, and held emotion shift the autonomic nervous system into sympathetic dominance. Muscle tone rises, heart-rate variability falls, and the electrical and circulatory conditions needed for repair are reduced. Energy is not gone; conduction is restricted.
In a Reiki session the practitioner enters a physiologically quiet state and places hands on or near the body. Cutaneous mechanoreceptors convert that contact into electrical signals that feed spinal and vagal pathways. Controlled studies associate this with a parasympathetic shift: lower heart rate and diastolic pressure, higher heart-rate variability, and, in some trials, lower cortisol. This is the relaxation response measured electrically.
Entrainment follows. Coupled biological oscillators—heart, breath, and brain—tend to synchronize. Proximity and touch allow one person’s cardiac rhythm to register in another’s EEG. As the client’s rhythms lock to the calmer pattern in the room, guarding eases, flow resumes, and immune and repair processes can operate. When electrical coherence and autonomic rest are both restored, the conditions for healing are in place.
