Wellness Wednesday: Long hours on your feet or stationary at a desk can take a toll on your joints and lower back. You don’t need a gym membership to stay agile. Incorporating quick stretches—like shoulder rolls, calf raises, or a brisk walk down the corridor during a break—keeps your circulation flowing and your mind sharp.

💧 : Beat the Heat: Hydration on the Frontlines

Working a demanding shift in a secure environment means your body uses up energy fast. Staying hydrated isn’t just about quenching thirst—it directly impacts your focus, reaction time, and stress management.

Swap out that third energy drink for a cold bottle of water to keep your energy steady all shift long.

💡 Frontline Tip: The "One-for-One" Rule
When navigating a busy shift, it’s easy to rely on coffee or energy drinks to keep your stamina up. Try the One-for-One Rule: for every caffeinated beverage you consume, match it with one full bottle of water immediately after.

Maintain Steady Energy: This prevents the sudden dehydration crash often caused by high caffeine and sugar intake.
Support Cognitive Focus: Proper hydration keeps your brain fueled, keeping your reactions sharp and reducing the physical impacts of shift stress.

Making small, intentional choices with your routine right where you are pays off in long-term resilience. Take care of yourself out there!

🥦 : Small Choices, Big Health Outcomes for Our Teams

Shift work, high-stress environments, and long hours can make healthy choices feel tough, but maximizing your well-being comes down to making intentional, informed decisions with the resources available during your shift.

Here is how to optimize your daily routine for better physical and mental resilience:
🏃‍♂️ 1. Move Your Body (Functional Fitness for the Shift)
Physical activity isn’t just about fitness—it’s a powerful tool to lower blood pressure, protect your joints from long hours on your feet, and naturally decompress from shift stress.
Maximize Your Breaks: Brisk walking during a break, taking the stairs, or doing quick stretches between tasks requires zero equipment but delivers maximum cardiovascular and mental benefits.
Consistency Wins: Aim for just 20 to 30 minutes of cumulative movement throughout your workday to keep your heart healthy, your body agile, and your mind sharp.
🍎 2. Fuel Your Shift (Smart Dietary Decisions)
Every dietary choice is an investment in how your body handles stress and fatigue tomorrow. Balancing what you eat helps maintain steady energy levels and prevents the dreaded mid-shift crash.
Pack Whole Options: When prepping shift meals or grabbing snacks, lean toward high-fiber options, lean proteins, and snacks with lower sodium levels like nuts or fresh fruit.
Hydration is Key: Swap sugary energy drinks and sodas for water. Staying hydrated supports cognitive function, digestive health, and sustainable energy levels during long shifts.
🤝 The CPS Approach: Total Team Well-Being
At CPS, we believe that healthcare excellence starts from within. Our clinical workflows are strongest when our on-site clinicians, providers, and security partners are feeling their best. We are dedicated to cultivating an environment that empowers our staff with the wellness and nutritional knowledge they need to take charge of their own health journeys.
Healthy living is a daily practice built on the small, positive choices we make right where we are. Thank you for taking care of yourselves so you can continue to provide exceptional care to others!

🏥 Managing a Growing Need: Complex Care for an Aging Inmate Population

Correctional healthcare isn't simply acute or episodic—it’s now undeniably long-term care. We aren’t just treating an immediate ailment; we are managing aging-related comorbidity, mobility issues, hearing and vision impairment, and, increasingly, complex neurocognitive conditions like dementia.

At CPS, our mission of seamless, unified care includes adapting every single step of our clinical workflows to meet these intricate needs. Our approach includes:
Proactive Geriatric Assessments: We don't wait for issues. Our integrated clinical teams and security partners collaborate on proactive wellness checks.

Specialized Long-Term Care (LTC) Protocols: We leverage evidence-based protocols specifically tailored for geriatric patients.

Complex Care Coordination: Using a unified approach, our on-site clinicians, security staff, and external specialists work in a seamless workflow to ensure every patient gets the right treatment at the right time.

Chronic Disease & Mobility Management: Our workflows are designed for continuous, specialized management of conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and mobility limitations, prioritizing dignity and function.

Providing quality healthcare to an aging population in a secure setting is complex, but it is not impossible. It requires innovation, specialized knowledge, and a team completely dedicated to a unified, seamless care model.

CPS is proud to lead the way in adapting care delivery for all demographics within the justice system, ensuring safe, effective, and humane care.

🤝 Teamwork Across Boundaries: Safe Care, Shared Missions 🤝

In correctional healthcare, providing exceptional medical delivery takes more than just a great clinical team—it takes a unified front.

Today, we are giving a massive shout-out to our incredible security partners at the outstanding facilities we serve.

True teamwork knows no boundaries. Every single day, CPS clinical staff work hand-in-hand with county and facility security teams. While our backgrounds and daily duties may look different, our mission is exactly the same: ensuring a safe, secure, and highly effective environment for medical care.

From managing daily clinic flows to responding swiftly in critical moments, this seamless collaboration is the backbone of our workplace culture. We couldn’t do what we do without the dedication, vigilance, and support of our security partners.
Thank you for standing with us, keeping our teams safe, and helping us deliver the highest standard of care every single shift.

🩺 Wellness Wednesday: The 2-Minute "Shift Reset"🩺

When you’re busy caring for others, it’s easy to forget to check in on yourself. Long hours on your feet or staring at screens can take a toll on your body and mind before your shift is even halfway over.

Try this 2-Minute Shift Reset during your next workday to recharge:

The 20-20-20 Eye Break: If you're charting or looking at monitors, look away every 20 minutes at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It instantly reduces eye strain and headaches.

The Posture Check: Roll your shoulders back, unclench your jaw, and drop your shoulders away from your ears. (Yes, do it right now!)

The Hydration Hit: Drink one full glass of water. Fatigue is often just hidden dehydration.

The Box Breath: Take 3 deep breaths. Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. It instantly lowers stress hormones.

Taking just two minutes for yourself isn't selfish—it helps you show up as your best self for your patients and your team.
