HE WAS 20. HE HAD A FUTURE. HE HAD A LIFE. 💔

He should have been celebrating his graduation, making plans, building his future, and becoming the man he dreamed of becoming.

Instead, a 20 year old Haitian student died by su***de after being detained by ICE.

Read that again.

A young life was lost.

This is not simply an immigration story.
This is not simply a political debate.
This is a human life.

Behind every detention number is a son, daughter, brother, sister, parent, student, friend, or dreamer.

During Su***de Prevention Month, we cannot talk about mental health while ignoring the conditions that can contribute to despair, isolation, fear, and hopelessness.

We must ask hard questions.

Who is caring for the mental health of people in detention?
Who is listening when someone says they are losing hope?
Who is responsible for protecting human dignity when someone is at their most vulnerable?

His life mattered.

His dreams mattered.

He was somebody.

And his death should move us beyond outrage for a moment and toward action.

🕊️ We need humane immigration policies.
🧠 We need meaningful mental health care for people in detention.
❤️ We need systems that protect human dignity.

If you are struggling right now, please do not suffer in silence.

Call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. You deserve support. You deserve to be heard. You deserve to stay.

Let this young man’s life remind us:

People are more than case numbers.
People are more than immigration status.
People are human beings.

🕯️ May we remember him. May we honor his life. And may we do better.

💜 SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL SU***DE PREVENTION MONTH

Sometimes, “I’m fine” is not the whole story.

Someone you love may be struggling quietly.

The friend who stopped answering.
The coworker who seems different.
The teenager who suddenly withdrew.
The person who keeps saying, “I’m tired.”

Check on them.

Not just with a quick “How are you?”
Ask again.
Listen without judgment.
Stay a little longer.

And if you are the person who is struggling, please hear this:

You matter. Your life matters. Your story is not over.

You do not have to carry everything alone.
There is help. There is hope. There is another conversation waiting to happen.

📞 Call or text 988 for 24/7 crisis support.

💜 Save this post. Share it. Send it to someone you love.
You never know whose life your decision to reach out might touch.

The Shame No One Talks About in Sexual Abuse

Sometimes, during one of the most painful experiences of your life, your body can respond in ways you never expected.

You may freeze. Your nervous system may react as though what is happening is normal. You may even experience a physical response that leaves you carrying shame long after the abuse has ended.

Please hear this clearly:

Your body’s response was not consent.
Your body’s response was not an invitation.
Your body’s response was not your fault.

Healing begins when we stop blaming ourselves for something we did not cause.

You are not broken.
You are not dirty.
You are not alone.
You are becoming. 💜

If this message speaks to you, save it, share it, or send it privately to someone who may need these words today.

As Dr. Quita Whea Roberts, The Friendly Counselor, I believe every survivor deserves a safe space to process, heal, and reclaim their voice.

💜 Your story matters.
💜 Your healing matters.
💜 You matter.
