❤️ Growing older should never mean becoming invisible.
Sometimes advocacy starts with one very simple question:
“What do YOU want?”
Not what their family wants.
Not what the facility thinks is easiest.
Not what the system assumes is best.
What does the person actually want?
As people age—or begin needing more help—it can become surprisingly easy for conversations to start happening around them instead of with them.
Appointments are scheduled.
Placements are discussed.
Decisions are made.
Plans are created.
And somewhere along the way, the person at the center of all those decisions can stop being asked what matters to them.
At Dakota Guardianship & Advocacy, we believe needing support should never mean losing your voice.
Sometimes a person may need help understanding their options. Sometimes they need someone to slow the conversation down, ask more questions, or make sure their concerns aren't overlooked.
Because advocacy isn't about taking someone's voice away. It's about making sure their voice is heard. 💜
Today, take a few extra minutes with an older or vulnerable adult in your life.
Ask them what they want.
Then really listen.
Sometimes being heard is one of the greatest forms of dignity we can give another person.
💜 Dakota Guardianship & Advocacy
Advocacy. Support. A voice when it matters most.
