As we continue to dismantle some thoughts come up that we would like to share!
At times I’ve felt like I’ve done it all in tattoo and then I’m reminded there are more stages and experiences to go. I’ve opened a few shops before, but never closed one. I’ve mentored several tattoo artist to achieve lift off, but never coached any on how to open and operate a shop at a high level. Wild Idea was a 15 year project and it’s be an honor serving the public there. We’re closing Thrash’s satellite shop Wild Idea on our terms in our timeline to shift our focus going forward. It’s the way Cathy and I want it to be. This is what our focus looks like today.
My longtime friend and colleague Jamie Grav has opened his own studio in the old Wild Idea location! He’s ponied up his own money and dedicating his efforts to launch his own brand He’s been around and has a lot of great ideas, so stay tuned and show him some love. He’s grown into this role naturally through years of dedication to the craft.
3 years ago CoVid decimated the piercing department at Thrash’s. Without a piercer and not letting the public walk in the shop without an appointment we sent all the jewelry and piercing requests over to Pam at Wild 3 years ago. This has worked great. I can do piercings, but with the vast majority of tattoo requests at Thrash’s going undone, I haven’t been piercing or looking to offer them going forward. We love and respect Pam and her piercing work and recommend her every time someone asks.
We’re doing our best to operate with the least disruption as we make this shift. I go to Surly Goat each week and grab boxes of my belongings to give Jamie more room. It’s slow going and a trip going through it. Memories flood. It’s a personal odyssey, but rest assured we’re still tattooing at Thrash’s and making it even stronger. Jamie and crew are building, growing stronger, we’re leaner and tighter at Thrash’s and this means great stuff for the clients!! Thank you for being with us in this time of transition, Matt Thrash
