๐ฆStaff Spotlight: Parker, RBT
Parker has been a wonderful part of the Expressions team and brings patience, consistency, and a positive attitude to the clinic each day. As an RBT, she is dedicated to supporting her clients, celebrating their successes, and helping them continue to learn and grow.
Parker is dependable, hardworking, and always willing to jump in and help wherever she is needed. Her calm demeanor and commitment to providing quality care make her a valued member of our team.
We are so grateful to have Parker as part of the Expressions family and appreciate all that she does for our clients and team! ๐๐
Looking back, what advice would you give your โnew RBTโ self?
Be patient! Itโs going to take time to feel confident in your work and at times can feel overwhelming trying to balance all the things as a new RBT. Itโs also going to take time to build relationships with your clients and every ounce of effort will be worth it. A little effort & patience go a long way and soon, progress will be everywhere you look.
If you could have any superpower during a therapy session, what would it be?
The ability to see/experience the world from their perspective! There are so many moments I catch myself thinking, if I could stand in their shoes for just 5 minutes, we could find so many different ways to help them feel heard and understood. Until then, Iโm happy to work to meet them anywhere we can!
What skill do you love teaching most? (Communication, play, independence, etc.)
Communication and self-esteem! There are no words to describe the feelings watching your clients communicate anything for the first time and the pride they have in themselves for all their hard work! Itโs a privilege to play any part of a clientsโ journey to find their voice and watching their faces light up when they are heard and celebrated for using it!
Whatโs a client win youโve been especially proud of lately?
Self regulation! The world is filled with adversity and some people will experience more than others. Watching my clients identify personal regulation tools, to learning when to ask for them, to independently using them when they feel unregulated has filled me with an overwhelming sense of pride in all their hard work. It also provides so much hope that my clients will have opportunities to participate in any activities they might be interested in even when there are potential triggers.
Whatโs one thing youโve learned at Expressions thatโs helped you grow?
How to ask for help. As an adult, the pressure to preform has the potential to test oneโs ego about how much they โcan handle.โ Learning that asking for help when something is not working is a strength. In order to provide the best possible care for your clients, you have to use all your resources, also showing your kids that even grown ups need help sometimes. โSorrow shared is halved, joy shared is doubled.โ
Which Tiny Town spot would you โworkโ in if you had to pick one?
Maclinโs Market because there is so many opportunities for the kids to experience and practice daily life skills! From picking what you need to carry groceries, to the foods to make your meal, to exchanging cash or card, there are so many forgotten โstepsโ to going to the grocery store that can feel intimidating and giving the kids access to practice early, helps them feel confident to make these decisions as an adult.
What staff event or spirit day has been your favorite so far?
While itโs been a more recent spirit day theme, Iโve loved dressing like our coworkers or dressing themed in honor of them. We have busy days that we dedicate to our clients, and even on days where we might not get to communicate our appreciation for each other, itโs so fun to see 15 other versions of you through the lenses of people who really care about you!
Whatโs one word youโd use to describe the Expressions team?
DEDICATED
What would you tell someone whoโs thinking about joining the Expressions family?
Inevitably, there will be hard days. There will be times where your patience, endurance, and your sprinting abilities will be tested, probably more than once. If youโre motivated to make genuine connections and put in the work to find the balance, then you get the privilege of witnessing the most rewarding progress. Every single day, you get to be apart of a radiating sense of endless possibilities, purpose, and accomplishments.
Thank you, Parker, for the kindness, dedication, and positive energy you bring to Expressions each day. Your hard work and commitment to your clients make such a meaningful impact, and we are so grateful to have you on our team. Letโs give Parker a big shoutout! ๐๐
