“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”

Life is a journey full of many chapters and seasons. And if you’ve experienced enough of life, you know those chapters don’t always work out the way you thought they would. Doors open that you never expected to open, and others close that you never expected to close.

Katie and I walked through the open door into this gym over 4 years ago. Before that I’d been a trainer for 7 years — and during that time I said on multiple occasions, “I never want to own my own gym.” 😅

It wasn’t that I didn’t love fitness and the people I got to work with, but owning a gym was something, for many reasons, I didn’t think I’d ever want to do. But then the door of opportunity opened, and we felt led to step through. So we did — taking over Adamson’s Peak Performance in July of 2022, turning it into Smitty Built Fitness, and the rest is history.

We’re so thankful that door was opened to us. And I’m thankful I laid down my stubborn opinion of never owning a gym.

It has been an amazing 4 years. The relationships we’ve formed, the experiences we’ve had, the lessons we’ve learned — we wouldn’t trade it for a thing. It’s been full of hardships, challenges, stretching, and stressful days, weeks, and months, but it has been a blessing through it all.

That is why it is with a heavy heart that we share that we will be closing the gym on August 31st.

This is not what we expected or wanted when we set out on this journey 4 years ago. But the financial reality of keeping the doors open is one we can no longer overcome, no matter how much we’ve hoped otherwise.

The most painful part is closing the door to a place you have come to know and love as your own.

To everyone who has been with us these past few years — supporting, encouraging, and journeying alongside us — thank you. You made it worth it, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Although our time at 3050 C Street is coming to an end, Katie and I will still be around, and we’d love to stay connected.

We had to say a tough goodbye to everyone’s favorite trainer, Colin Rutland.

Colin has been with us since day 1 and has been a vital part of our journey over the last four years. He was more than a staff member, he’s been a friend and a brother. And we’ve been fortunate to have him in our corner.

He’s pursuing a career in law enforcement and we know he will be amazing wherever his path leads.

Good news - you will still see Colin around the gym getting his workouts in! Make sure to wish him well next time you see him.

Colin, thank you for everything you’ve done for this place and our members over the last few years. It means more than you know 🙏

🇺🇸 This Memorial Day, we’re coming together to honor the fallen by tackling the Murph workout.

It’s a tradition named after Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who gave his life in service, and it’s our small way of remembering that freedom isn’t free.

You do NOT need to be in “Murph shape” to be part of this. We’ll have scaled versions, partner versions, and modified options so that every single person who walks in the door can participate and finish. No matter what, we’ll have a version of this with your name on it.

And we’re opening the doors for this one! Bring your spouse, your friend, your neighbor, your grown kids. You don’t have to be a member to show up. This one’s about community, gratitude, and doing something hard together.

Just show up. We’ll take care of the rest.

For the Murph workout, we’ll have sessions at 8:30am, 9:30am and 10:30am.

If you still would like to get a workout in for the day, but don’t want to join in on the Murph workout, our operating hours for the day will be 8am-12pm.

Paige has been a member with us for just over a year. Her story of motherhood, and her fitness journey through it, is relatable and inspiring.

“Becoming a mother of two was the greatest blessing of my life, but it also changed my body in ways I wasn’t prepared for. Between pregnancies, sleepless nights, and putting everyone else first, I gained more weight than I ever imagined and at times barely recognized the woman in the mirror.

There were moments of frustration, insecurity, and exhaustion, but deep down I knew I wanted to feel strong, confident, and healthy again-not just for how I looked, but for myself and my family. My journey back wasn’t quick or easy. It took early mornings, late nights, discipline when I didn’t feel motivated, and choosing progress over excuses. Through hard work, consistency, and not giving up I was able to slowly get “me” back. I rebuilt not only my body, but my confidence.

Today, I’m proud to say l’ve come back stronger than ever, feeling healthy, and truly comfortable in my own skin. This journey has taught me that real transformation takes patience, sacrifice, and dedication. I continue to raise the bar for myself knowing I’m still capable of so much more. Finding a gym like Smitty Built I now have a place that feels like my second home. This gym offers security, community and a place to be proud to be a part of. It makes you feel like you’re not just another member, you’re greeted with familiar faces, and overall amazing humans. I will continue to lead by example and become the best version of myself and there’s no better place to do it!”
