Let's Meet Our Spink County Ambulance Crew.
First up is Elle Adema

Years of service: 5

Pendleton the Heeler and Cailly the Collie mix
Parents- Jim & Jackie Neubarth and Bart Adema
Siblings- Andrew Adema, Cailyn and Hannah Neubarth

Employment: E-911 Dispatcher with the City of Mitchell

Hobbies: crochet and baking

What made me an EMT: I grew up with volunteer firefighters and saw their dedication to their community. When I dispatched for Spink County I saw the need. CMH was offering a free EMT class and quite a few people convinced me to do it.

Most rewarding aspect: Knowing I am helping someone. Whether it is getting them a higher level of care to showing compassion and grace in their last moments.

Fun Fact: I was Miss Winthrop 2016-2017

🚲 Know Before You Go: E-Bikes, Scooters & Mopeds in South Dakota 🛴

With more electric bikes and scooters on our roads than ever before, it’s important to know the rules before you ride. Just because it’s electric doesn’t mean the laws don’t apply!

Here are a few key reminders under South Dakota law:

âś… Class 1 & Class 2 E-Bikes (under 750 watts with a top assisted speed under 28 mph)

* No driver’s license required.
* Helmets are recommended but not required by law.
* May be ridden on roads and, where permitted, bike paths.
* Must have a white front light and red rear light when riding from sunset to sunrise.

đź›´ Motorized Foot Scooters & E-Scooters

* A valid driver’s license is required to operate on public streets.
* Riders under 18 must wear a helmet.
* If operated on the roadway, the scooter must meet South Dakota’s street-legal equipment requirements, including lights, brakes, and signaling.

🛵 Mopeds

* A valid driver’s license is required, and mopeds over 50cc require a motorcycle endorsement.
* Riders under 18 must wear a helmet.
* Proper equipment is required for street use.

🚦 No matter what you’re riding:
✔️ Obey traffic signs and signals.
✔️ Ride predictably and stay alert.
✔️ Watch for pedestrians and other vehicles.
✔️ Be visible—especially at dawn, dusk, and night.

Whether you’re headed across town or just around the block, knowing the law helps keep everyone safe.

Ride smart. Ride legal. Ride home safely. đźš”

Please refer to the attached infographic for a quick guide to South Dakota’s e-bike, scooter, and moped regulations.
