Congratulations to Eldred-Evans et al. from the Imperial Colleague who has shown in JAMA Oncology that MRI of the prostate is much more sensitive and specific to detect clinically relevant prostate cancer than PSA or ultrasound.

Of course, it is not covered by insurance companies as of yet (certainly here in the US), but if you're above 50 years of age and want to have a peace of mind, this might be something to consider.

Can Antibiotics Help with Pancreatic Cancer?

Congrats to Dr. Aimee Lucas of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai whose JAMA Oncology article suggests that antibiotics might help patients who received gemcitabine for pancreatic cancer.

Interesting, some antibiotics, while primarily used to treat bacterial infections, have shown anticancer effects due to their interference with cellular processes in both bacteria and cancer cells and are already standard of care for some cancers, including doxorubicin, bleomycin, actinomycin D, and mitomycin C.
