The fitness industry didn’t fail you because it was evil.

It failed you because it had the wrong answer.

Eat less. Move more. Try harder.

That was the prescription for 30 years.

And people did exactly that.

They tried harder than they ever had.

And they still got sicker.

Autoimmune conditions up.

Chronic inflammation up.

Anxiety, insomnia, gut disorders.

All climbing.

During the fittest era in human history.

The problem was never your effort.

It was where everyone told you to start.

You can’t outrun a dysregulated nervous system.

You can’t out-diet a gut that won’t heal.

We started over.

Different place.

Different order.

Different results.

Follow along. We’re just getting started.

I guess I was just too busy to realize...I never said it.

Something I heard the other day from a dad.

It was a really powerful statement and a self actualization moment for this person.

It actually gave me goosebumps just hearing it.

Literally pierced my heart.

I’ll tell you what he said in a moment.

This dad had been so busy working and building his business he let his relationship with his kids kind of pass by.

It had been years since this particular dad had told his daughter that he loved her.

They’d had a challenging relationship for sometime.

And neither knew how to communicate with each other.

The dad was just trying to get by and make a good life for his baby girl.

The daughter was struggling with feeling accepted and loved by her dad.

Both were frustrated.

The daughter was acting out as kids do.

As we were chatting about it I asked him a simple statement...

When was the last time you looked at her in the eye and really just said “I love you”

He couldn’t recall if it even had ever happened.

Said he felt embarrassed.

Like saying it now would be somehow not genuine.

So I asked him...

But what if you don’t?

What happens then?

What if she never realizes that you do love her and how you feel?

How much will she learn to resent you?

Are you willing to settle for that?

He said no.

And then with tears in his eyes.

Huffing a bit from the emotions he was feeling he said...

I guess I’ve just been so busy all these years trying to build a great life...I forgot to say I love you once in a while.

This person I’d do anything for I accidentally hurt.

What am I going to do now?

So I replied...

Why not just say I love you and let her in?

And he did.

The very next day.

They cried together.

Hugged.

Talked through years of pent up frustration.

They finally healed their relationship.

And for the first time truly felt connected to each other.

I think in this life we all have one opportunity to embrace who we are and those we love.

Dont hold back.

Our ability to communicate dictates the quality of our lives.

And as a dad to a beautiful little girl, I’ll remember this story for the rest of my life.

Are you afraid of the dark?

This is a question I asked Aubriana the other day.

When she stopped in her tracks because the lights were off in the hallway.

As she stopped she simply said...lights.

Now a normal person would have turned the lights on and gone about their day walking through the hallway.

I’m not necessarily normal though, so I did something a bit different.

I kept the lights off, told Aubriana that its going to be ok.

Told her to hold my hand.

That the dark isn’t scary.

And we walked through that dark hallway together.

Hand in hand.

I didn’t force her to face the fear.

I didn’t make her do it on her own.

I guided her to challenge the fear that had been constructed in her young mind.

And she didn’t even question it.

Because she trusts me to guide her.

To keep her safe.

Always have her best interest in mind.

Something profound came about as a result.

She no longer stops when a room is dark.

The inherent fear doesn’t persist.

Now there’s a lesson to be learned here.

The dark and fear in general.

Can be scary.

Lonely.

Disturbing.

It can stop you in your tracks.

And as human being you inherently have a fear distilled in you.

It’s a product of evolution to keep you alive.

And sometimes the only way to break past this fear is to have someone hold your hand.

Tell you that’s it’s going to be ok.

And to guide you to a place where fear no longer exists.

The most difficult, yet empowering thing a person can do, is to ask for help.

Finally time to say yes to you!
