The danger of all-or-nothing thinking is that “nothing” eventually becomes the fallback every time life gets difficult.
You see it constantly with fitness and nutrition when someone misses a few workouts, has a rough weekend with food, or falls out of their routine for a couple weeks during a summer vacation. Instead of adjusting, they mentally check out because the original plan no longer looks perfect.
That mindset keeps people stuck in a constant cycle of starting over. Their "fitness journey" is more like a "fitness hamster wheel."
Long term progress is dependent on a person'a ability to adapt, adjust, and stay engaged long enough to keep correcting course. The people who change their lives aren’t the ones who never struggle, miss workouts, or lose momentum. They end up being the ones who stop treating every setback like a final outcome or excuse to quit.
Life changes constantly. That is not unique to anyone. But if your mindset can only function when everything is ideal, you’re going to spend a large portion of your life frustrated and disappointed.
The ability to adapt without quitting is one of the most valuable traits a person can develop not just in fitness but everywhere.
