"One common misconception that people might have is that just because their child's on medication at home, they can bring that medication to school and have it with them no problem," said Kailee Grahek, Pharmacy Resident at Aspirus Health.

Even if your child has been taking the same medication for a while, changes in dosage, weight, school staff or classroom routines can affect their medication plan at school. Grahek shares several often-overlooked considerations to help parents keep their child's medications safe, effective and ready when they're needed.

Ultimately, it's about getting the right care to the right baby in the right amount of time,” said Sharon Thimmesch, Aspirus RN and NICU Transport Coordinator.

When a critically ill or premature newborn needs specialized care, every minute matters. Aspirus MedEvac and NICU teams work together to safely transport babies to advanced neonatal care using specialized equipment and highly trained transport professionals.

Because when families are facing some of their most difficult moments, getting the right care at the right time can make all the difference.

"Early detection helps prevent long-term complications and helps children have normal growth and development," said Sarah Baldwin, pediatric nurse practitioner with Aspirus Health.

A simple newborn screening performed shortly after birth can identify rare but serious health conditions before symptoms appear. The screening checks for more than 60 conditions, including sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, congenital hypothyroidism and PKU.

Understanding how newborn screening works can help parents feel informed and confident during their baby's first days of life.

Medications may be contributing to your falls risk in ways you might not expect.

"Medications can affect many things and increase fall risk, including coordination, dizziness, drowsiness, or affecting blood pressure," said Yinglai Chang, Aspirus Health Pharmacy Resident.

Taking multiple medications, especially those with similar side effects, can increase the risk of falls and serious injury. Reviewing your medications and over-the-counter products with a pharmacist can help you better understand your risk and address any concerns.
